“I began as a sculptor, roaming junkyards, drawn to rusted metal and its histories.
I paint the same way—through surfaces that reveal their past.”
Stephanie Shaddock Woods is an abstract figurative artist based in Calistoga, CA, with a BFA in Sculpture. After more than a decade living and working in New York City, her practice evolved across disciplines, ultimately centering on painting.
Her work moves between abstraction and figuration, where boundaries remain intentionally porous. She begins each piece without a predetermined image, building layers of color, texture, and gesture from which figures gradually reveal themselves. Her paintings invite interpretation and emotional response. Each piece creates a space for dialogue between artist and viewer, where meaning emerges for each observer.
